Higher Education - Where graduates live?

Retaining graduates is a challenge that many regions face, including the North East. The analysis below includes comparisons with other core city LEP areas to put the North East data into context. In order to understand where graduates are currently residing, graduates are surveyed 1, 3 and 5 years after graduation. Looking at the data:

• Greater Manchester had the highest graduate retention rate over the 5 years survey with after 3 and 5 years the rate being 58%
• Leeds City Region and Sheffield City Region both fared well in the first year however declined in the 3 and 5 years after graduation
• Sheffield City Region had the lowest graduate retention rate with only 37% of graduates residing in the region after 3 and 5 years

As depicted in the second graph below, the North East has 46% of its graduates staying in the region one year after completing their studies. This remains fairly stable across three and five years, with 45% of graduates residing in the North East five years after graduating.
