Working age people receiving job-related training
In the 12 month period Jan 22-Dec 22, about 9.4% of people aged 16 to 64 in the North East LEP area had received job-related training in the four weeks prior to being surveyed. About 16.5% had received such training in the previous quarter of the year (13 weeks). Both percentages were below the England excluding London equivalents and were only the fifth highest among the eight core city areas.

Workers receiving job-related training
For employees and self-employed people, the equivalent percentages for the North East were 13.5% and 23.5%. Both were lower than the England excluding London rates and below the core city area median.

Differences within the North East
Among the seven North East local authorities, the percentage of resident workers receiving job-related training in the previous four weeks was highest in Gateshead. For the 13-week measure, the percentage was highest in North Tyneside. Among constituencies, the four-week percentage was highest for Bishop Auckland residents and the 13-week percentage was highest for those from Gateshead constituency (a smaller area than Gateshead council area).

Change over time
The North East 4-week percentage was lower than a year earlier, while the 13-week percentage was unchanged. Over the long-term North East trends have generally been downwards. Up to about 2014, both rates were higher than for England excluding London in most years but the reverse has been true since that date.
